Head of Content Solutions
What I do at Emerald Publishing
My remit covers our end-to-end operations for journals, books, and case studies. This includes peer review, production, print, and some post-publication activities like data feeds. Our content is mostly outsourced, and so as well as collaborating with my department in the UK, I also work with global supplier teams in the US, India, and Europe.
Alongside this, I contribute to Emerald's business strategy as a senior leader, and I sit on two industry committees.

Why Emerald Publishing
It's fast-paced - we're innovating daily and my own department is a global 24/7 set-up - but there are some terrific people, we recognise and reward hard work, and seeing the results at the end make it all worthwhile. Emerald do walk the talk on work-life balance, with great benefits and flexible working, and there are some cracking non-work activities to get involved with. Above all, I feel supported at Emerald. I have a large department, a big remit with a lot of responsibility, and fifty different things going on at any one time. I am trusted to do my job, but I know I have support from my colleagues or the Emerald Board if I need it.
Who am I?
My career path has been very linear. My first publishing role was at Taylor & Francis, where I joined as a Production Editor in 2012 following my Masters degree. I was promoted to Deputy Team Lead after 18 months, and Team Lead after a further 18 months. In that role, I managed a team of six people, travelled to Singapore to set up a new production team, travelled to New Zealand to support the Dove Medical Press acquisition, spent six months in the Quality Management department creating a knowledge base for the global production teams, and worked on over 100 different journals spanning medicine, arts, communication, and education.
